XTRA-LINK UPDATE

Just to update all,

Around 24 hours ago we noticed some play on our one wheel. The "key" in the keyway was missing and therefore it was slipping.

We went about making up a suitable key.During this time we slowed the boat for the night etc.. In order to fit we needed to effectively stop the boat.

Sails down etc.. and roll in the swell. We did this in 20 knots of wind. We could not move the sprocket a the grub screw had sheared.. we tried a few things.. During which we loaded up the steering.. In this process a Swage that connects the steering cable to the chain. If you examine the photo, I have never encountered a swage that fails in this manner.. this effectively left us with a problem, we spend a few hours..(not racing) and made a plan.

We then hoisted sails at around 3:20pm and started sailing again, initially conservative, later we hoisted the symetrics and started pushing. This steering is a set back in time, not only for the repair time but alos the period beforehand when we nursed it. I am sure you will be able to connect the "dots" in our daily performances. Right now everything is going well, but we will need to be a bit more conservative going forward..

Morale still great aboard.

Best to all.

Dale
